" Powerful & gorgeous, the whole package. Exceeded my expectations from this team, which is saying a lot. " said.

" Just outstanding.Alexander makes poetry accessible and important to young people who might otherwise scoff at verse. " said.

" This book is a celebration, a memorial, and a lesson perfectly blended together. The power of both the words and imagery brought tears to my eyes. " said.

"The flood of diverse (and thoughtful and gorgeous) children's books in the past couple of years has been a long time coming, but wow--the feeling I get when I see a book like this one reminds me of how I felt watching the Obama family on TV the night Barack was first elected president. Not as naive anymore, obviously, but it gives me great hope! Kwame Alexander and Kadir Nelson teamed up to create a masterpiece: a powerful poem combined with dynamic illustrations of historical figures and events involving black people, from the 1700s to today. There are athletes, artists, musicians, activists, and regular people who would have remained anonymous if not for their death at the hands of white supremacists or policemen. I learned a lot by reading the back matter that gives a brief bio of the people and background information about the events depicted. And then, from the very last page, I even discovered that the book is named after ESPN's website TheUndefeated.com, which is described on that site as "the premier platform for exploring the intersections of race, sports and culture. We enlighten and entertain with innovative storytelling, original reporting and provocative commentary." It would be great to start every morning discovering all the treasures held in a short, beautiful book like this!" said.

" Yesss!!! Beautiful.... Beautiful!!! " said.

" What an amazing book. The poetry and the artwork are so perfect. " said.

" I absolutely love Kadir Nelson's work - and his illustrations in this picture book are stunning. Alexander's poem is beautiful and I liked the blurbs regarding the events and figures referenced in the poem - I am always happy to learn something new (like Muhammad Ali had his boxing titles stripped when he was arrested for draft evasion - later taken to the Supreme Court) " said.

" Powerful and poetic look at black Americans who always remained undefeated in their hearts. " said.
