" When we read the last page, my 8 yo immediately said "No! I don't want it to end! Is there a follow-up book for this?" " said.

" This book is a lovely story. While it is geared for younger readers, it has something in it for grown ups as well! " said.

" I loved this book so much! Everyone should read this, kids and adults. " said.

" I didn't read this but my eleven yr. old son did and loved it! He said the only thing he didn't like was that it was too short. He couldn't stop talking about it and said he may even read it again! There are few things better, in my opinion, than seeing your child excited about a book. " said.

" Gran is your average kid who has to move due to his Dad’s job. The new town isn’t exactly vibrant and while wandering Gran sees are a girl disappear into a hillside. The best part of this book is the world building, I want a lifter to explore this vast underground world that is collapsing on itself. Allegories ensue, would make a great novel study. I did find the ending a tad abrupt. " said.

"The Lifters by David Eggers really took me by surprise. Around 2/3rd of the way through I still couldn't really understand some big parts of the plot, but by the end I was tearing up and found myself more invested in the main character than I had realized!
As the story begins, we are introduced to a boy with the unusual name of Granite Flowerpetal, who has just moved to a new town and decides to introduce himself as Gran now. The move appears to be due to his parents encountering hard times, yet his family has remained close knit. He worries about his parents' arguing and picks up the slack when they struggle by caring for his little sister. Soon after he arrives, he noticed a girl and starts following her. He discovers that she somehow disappears into the ground and decided he has to find out how and why. Gran grows in confidence through his friendship with Catalina, a tough girl who is on a secret mission, despite getting off to a strange start. Together they form a solid team and come up with a way to solve the impending doom surrounding the increasing sink hole problem in their town. .
The Fan Brothers shared about their collaboration on the cover design of this book. The story really is a cool concept, and kept me wondering how it all would end the whole way through.

"Four stars, not necessarily for quality? I'm not good at rating that. But I had so much /fun/ reading this book. What an adventure, aw.
Hope beats the bullies. Bullies and evil prey on hopelessness and resignation. So the way to fight? Get to work with a cheerful heart. Tbh, that's a pretty solid message to walk away with.
Catalina isn't my favoritest. She has her moments, but wow. Annoying. Lol
Gran and his character growth were pretty impressive, to me. More than I expected from some of the rest of the story world.
Also, M & H vs S & P. Absurdity. Amazing.
Yeah, this was fun. Thanks, B. :)

"Gran, short for Granite, has just had to move back to the town where his great-grandparents were from with the hope that his dad will find work. This puts a strain on his mom and dad's marriage and on Gran and his younger sister because his dad is still driving hundreds of miles away looking for odd jobs. Carousel is not the friendliest town nor is the old off-kilter house the easiest to live in but Gran tries to make the best of it. He meets an odd girl who appears and disappears just as quickly seemingly into the hillside and when he follows her one night enters into a strange underground world he never knew existed. As scary and dangerous as this new world is Gran wants so badly to fit in and make a friend out of Catalina. You will never look at a door handle or small sinkhole the same way after reading this. Clever short chapters mixed with imaginative illustrations move the story along at a brisk exciting pace- a delight and just intense enough for thrill seekers. " said.
