" a child friendly way to teach kids about pollution!!! so important!! " said.

" There's a good message in the book (keeping our environment clean), although it felt a little preachy for a little reader. As in the other Pout-Pout fish books, illustrations are great. " said.

" The art in the pout-pout fish books always seems to me to be subpar (harsh, I know...), but the rhymes are super catchy and provide a refrain for kids to join in on. " said.

"The Pout-Pout Fish Cleans Up the Ocean is made up of well-meaning intentions but poor execution. The illustrations, though colorful and inventive, rub up against the uncanny valley with the fish's human-like eyes. (I presume this has been discussed before in earlier titles of the series.) More distressing is the confusing message of the book, which seemingly places the blame for the filthy oceans on "us" - that is, the fish. Given that fish are the *victims* of ocean pollution, I think this will confuse young readers more often than not. Writer Diesen and illustrator Hanna's message is clear, but the results are murkier." said.

"After Pout-Pout Fish notices all the garbage in the ocean, he decides to do something about it. Gathering all of his sea-loving friends, they solve the problem. It's clear that this is a big task, but as Mr. Fish points out, the problem was caused by them, and they need to fix it. Sadly, for the creatures that live in the sea, they didn't cause their problems, and it's up to us humans to clean up the messes that we have made. I liked the strong environmental message in the book and how the example of cooperating with each other is the key to success. Caregivers and teachers might want to share this picture book with youngsters as inspiration for taking environmental action of their own or as lesson on working together rather than against each other. The colorful illustrations are filled with details such as eco bags, brooms, and a recycling container, all of which complement the rhyming text featuring many young readers' favorite fish. Pout-Pout Fish has plenty about which to pout when he encounters the mess in the ocean, but not for long. " said.

"THE POUT-POUT FISH CLEANS UP THE OCEAN by Deborah Diesen and Dan Hanna brings back Mr. Fish and his friends who live happily in the beautiful ocean. Suddenly, Mr. Fish notices that there is "A big...BIG...MESS!" in the ocean, and he doesn't know what it is. He swims around and shares his concerns with his friends, always asking if they'd like to join him to figure out what it is and to solve the problem. Together, the ocean creatures come to a disturbing root cause of the mess and decide to go about fixing the damage.

The text emphasizes persistence and teamwork in tackling the problem of plastic and garbage pollution in the ocean. And after observing and analyzing the mess, the characters conclude that the problem is themselves. More specifically the bad and careless habits they (and we!) have of a single-use and throwaway society. To emphasize the idealist ocean world of Mr. Fish, the creatures all take responsibility for their actions and work together to not just clean up the mess they had caused, but they also decide to develop new habits for travel, use of plastic, and putting trash where it belongs. The issue is a "big...BIG...MESS," but the story makes sure to demonstrate that change can start with individuals working together.

" Adorable as always! Mr. Fish and his friends find a big Big Mess! and investigate the who, what, why and how of it all and if you pay close attention to the pictures you might figure it out before they do. I love the hopeful message at the end of this and all of the Pout-Pout Fish books. " said.

"Author Deborah Diesen and illustrator Dan Hanna team up once again in this eighth full-sized picture-book devoted to the maritime adventures of that reformed pouter, the Pout-Pout Fish. Admiring the beauty of the ocean one day, our piscine hero is dismayed to see a pile of trash. Enlisting the help of his friends, he sets out to clean up the mess...

Pairing an engaging tale told in rhyme - "There's a problem that needs solving, / And we don't know what to do. / But we're going to find some answers. / Would you like to join us, too?" - with bright, colorful artwork, The Pout-Pout Fish Cleans Up the Ocean would make for an excellent read-aloud. The ecological message is abundantly clear throughout, but the rhymes keep everything lighthearted, while the story-line presents a can-do attitude to solving problems like pollution and over-consumption. Recommended to fans of the Pout-Pout Fish, and to anyone looking for fairly gentle picture-books about the importance of environmental stewardship.
