" Horse and Pony Care, by Sandy Ransford, is a wonderful book for children who are thinking about getting a horse or pony, or for children who already have one and want to learn how to take better care of it. Children who do not own horses or ponies will also enjoy reading about people who do own them, and will learn lots of information. Instructions are provided for how to feed, groom and do many other standard caring acts for your horse or pony.
This book follows a format similar to that of the Eyewitness Books. Lots of information is provided, and pictures and informative paragraphs are scattered all over every page. The pictures do add to the text. The captions that go along with the pictures contain lots of information.
Children in second grade and up will enjoy reading this book and learning to take care of their ponies and horses. Lower readers could even enjoy this book by going over things with an older reader.

"My daughter is 8, crazy about horses, and she has learned loads from this book about horse care. This book is appropriate for people 8 years old to adult. It's organized for easy reference concerning many topics such as feed, safety, shelter, grooming, etc. When she visits the stables she can now have an educated conversation about all aspects of horse and pony care; she can even make suggestions to provide better care. My daughter reads this over and over. There are slight language differences between the American and British versions of the book. The differences are not that significant, but if I'd known I would have purchased the American version. Different words are used for some feeds, some parts of the horse and some shelter names for example. I recommend this book unequivocally." said.

"It is a great book for girls wanting to learn more about horses. My daughter has been taking it everywhere she goes, she is in 2nd grade and the fact that she wants to read a non fiction book is great!" said.

"My daughter learned a lot on how to take care of horses. She enjoyed the book thoroughly." said.
