" Helpful for discussion in understanding aspects of the self and others. The conversation held between the lost little Monkey and the Butterfly emphasises differences and similarities within the context of the topic at the time. Colourful images for visual readers. " said.

" I just love Julia Donaldson. I should give her her own shelf where a five star rating and "read again" are implied. This would be a great storytime book for Mother's Day and for animal themes. The kids can help out with identifying animals and filling in the rhymes. A delight. " said.

" I love this book!! Fantastic to animate with the children.. using the repetition of 'No, no, no' and getting the children to join in. There are so many opportunities to ask children questions about the animals they see, "Why can't they be monkeys mum?". The ending with the butterfly allows for children to think critically, especially if they are familiar with 'The Hungry Caterpillar". " said.

" En mahda sille mitään, mutta olen aivan hullaantunut näistä kirjoista! Kuvitus on vahvaa, seikkaperäistä ja leikkimielistä, tarinat koukuttavia ja riimittely onnistunut loistavasti myös käännöksessä. Tämä kirja kiinnosti molempia iltasadutettavia, niin 5-vuotiasta esikoista kuin 1-vuotiasta kuopusta. " said.

"This book is about a monkey who has lost his mum. He meets a butterfly who tries to help him find her. The monkey describes her mum by using phrases such as ‘she’s bigger than me’. The butterfly leads the monkey to different animals fitting the description that the monkey provides. They see animals such as elephants, parrots, spiders, snakes. The monkey then tells the butterfly that his mum looks like him and the butterfly tells the monkey that none of her children look like her. Eventually they find the monkeys dad who leads them to his mum.

This book is useful to look at poetry in KS1 and KS2. It makes good use of poetic language such as rhyming couplets as well as using speech. This also could be used in science to look at habitats and the reproductive cycle. Children could have a go at creating their own creatures or write their own poems linked to this book.

"Where's My Mom? follows the usual Are-You-My-Mother formula with a baby animal searching for its mother -- until the end. Baby Monkey can't find his mother and enlists Butterfly's help. Providing various descriptions of his mother, Baby Monkey follows Butterfly around the jungle and encounters many animals that are very much not his mother. It's not until Butterfly and Baby Monkey realize they've been miscommunicating that they find success. Butterfly points out that she did not realize Baby Monkey's mother would look like him, because her babies (caterpillars) do not look like her. This fun twist brings a nice bit of education into a fun story and makes the book entertaining both for children and adults.

Donaldson incorporates humor into the story and children will enjoy identifying the animals and laughing at how wrong Butterfly gets identifying Baby Monkey's mother. This book was largely successful with my preschool storytime group. While I thought the illustrations were slightly wanting, the kids were easily able to identify a variety of the animals and the interactive possibilities for this work are endless. Definitely something I'd return to in the future.

" I thought this was a ripp-off of "A bit lost" by Chris Haughton, but it seems it's the other way around. I liked Haughton's better, though. " said.

" This is called 'Monkey Puzzle' in my house. I have to read it every night to my four year old but I don't mind a bit because it is brilliant! " said.
