"I was excited to read What Children Need to Learn to Read by Michelle Vallene. This book is an excellent resource for all parents or early educators who want to help their children develop strong reading skills, confidence and a love of books. There are lots of fun activities that children are going to enjoy yet don’t take up a lot of time or require additional expensive resources. In fact many of the activities involve only quality time with you and your baby or child which is priceless in my opinion. My 5 year old loved the Rhyme Time activity where you cut out pictures from a magazine and placed various pictures such as a cat on it and then thought up words that rhymed like bat, hat etc. We then stapled the pages together to create his very own book! In addition to the activities and information presented by the author there is an excellent appendix section that I have been referencing to get additional book and magazine ideas, reading based computer programs and websites etc. The author has successfully written a literacy book that is not going to be overwhelming to parents and can actually motivate, inspire and give you the confidence that you CAN help teach your child to read! I can't wait to see the improvement in his grades this year!! I'm already starting with little man, so hopefully I'll have one prepared for the long road ahead!" said.
