" I was so sad with how small this book is! Bear stays up with the forest animals to enjoy Christmas with them. Once all the presents are open he goes back to hibernating under his new quilt. Would make a great one-on-one story for little kids but it might encourage them to stay up late on Christmas Eve. " said.

" I'm one of those storytellers that does Christmas themed stories all December. Nobody ever complains (although I do give fair warning before I start, just in case), so I keep doing it. Christmas Bear themed storytimes are a favorite, and this is a great addition. I totally <3 the Bear books, and this one may be my favorite. And I think both kids AND adults can identify with the sleeping/not-sleeping thing! " said.

" I expected this book to be a fairly secular Christmas story but the friends do hum "O Holy Night" in the story. Santa also makes an appearance which doesn't work for my family. Ultimately this isn't a book I would read at home or to my classroom but it was okay. Traditional families that "play" Santa and sing Christian carols will enjoy it, especially if they love the characters in the bear series. " said.

" Our favoriteMy little girl and I absolutely adore Bear and his friends. We have read every Bear book and this one didn't disappoint. I personally love the ebb and flow of the story. I love reading these books out loud. For this book in particular I love that Bears friends want to share Christmas with him and how they all work together to keep him awake. I love the idea of Bear and his friends making the presents. This book feels like how Christmas is supposed to be. " said.

" charming children’s book that is part of a larger series about bear and his adventures. I enjoyed this Christmas themed book about how bear is encouraged to stay awake until Christmas by his friends. I think it would be a good book to broach the topic of peer pressure with young kids. An adult reader could also talk about animals that hibernate versus ones that do not. The illustrations are adorable. " said.

"A super sweet Christmas entry in Karma Wilson's "Bear Books". To keep their typically hibernating pal awake for the holidays, Bear's woodland animal friends enlist him in preparations and merry-making. But when Bear stays up after all the others have fallen asleep, he is able to make his own gifts, as well as cross paths with a special someone! The best part of these books is the sweet and balanced friendship shared by the animals, and in this story I was particularly pleased to note that the animals' Christmas activities were in the true spirit of caring for each other and sharing time together instead of materialism." said.

Hello, friends! Well, it’s the penultimate book in the holiday countdown, and we’ve picked a great one for Christmas Eve: Bear Stays Up For Christmas, written by Karma Wilson and illustrated by Jane Chapman. This sweet story follows Wilson and Chapman’s popular Bear and his friends as they prepare for Christmas Day.

Bear’s friends have made decision: this year, they are going to wake their friend Bear from hibernation so that he can enjoy the Christmas holiday with them. And while it’s tough to wake a hibernating bear (and even tougher to keep him awake!), the friends are insitent – Christmas is a time to be together, and they don’t want for Bear to be left out. As the day goes by, the friends prepare for Christmas in all the usual ways: getting and decorating a tree, making yummy goodies, singing carols. As the day wanes, the friends all begin to stretch and yawn themselves – they’re so sleepy from all their work! One by one, they nod off until… only Bear is left awake. Grinning, Bear is delighted – now he can work on presents for all his friends, and perhaps have a very special visitor…

I have yet to read one of the Bear books that isn’t an absolute delight, and this one keeps the tradition alive. Sweet, kind, whimsical and wondrous, Bear and his friends are as cheerful and dedicated as always, and their adventures here are a festive treat that explores the Christmas theme of togetherness and friendship. Chapman’s illustrations are wonderful, using lifelike critter models and imbuing them with loads of personality and movement. The length is perfect, and JJ and I always love reading about Bear and company together. A wonderful Christmas story for a beloved cast of characters, and it’s Baby Bookworm approved!
