" This was an interesting book about mummies of children found around the world. Looking at some of these pictures and reading how they died is really sad. " said.

" Malcolm says, "I like skulls, skeletons and frozen people. And when mummy kids died all that was left was skeletons and skin." " said.

" Fascinating study and engaging presentation of mummified remains of kids from around the world. " said.

" Great nonfiction read for young readers. " said.

" Author Kelly Milner Halls presents a "fresh" look at a mummies by exploring the discovery, excavation, and study of children who were mummified--either by natural processes or burial rituals. Descriptions of mummies from various ancient cultures, not just Egypt, make this book a well-researched and unique text for children who are fascinated with mummies. " said.

" Absolutely fascinating topic, combined with a fluid writing style, and many well-reproduced color photos, is surely a winner for any one -- not only kid readers. However, there are editorial mistakes and typos. One mistake is quite glaring: (page 52) ... "Located in the Xinjiang region 1,600 miles east of Beijing, China's capital, Urumchi..." -- It should be "1,600 miles west of Beijing." " said.

" Quick--name one other culture that has mummification as part of it's rites/rituals than Egypt. . .Aha. This is what Kelly Milner Halls does in MYSTERIES OF THE MUMMY KIDS (c'mon--those boy readers in your learning community are going to be clamoring for this one; and talk about literature circles? The boys will be crowding around this book). " said.

Informational Text

There is nothing that captivates a MG reader more than mummies. Mysteries of the Mummy Kids will surely keep my readers spellbound. Showing the amazing photos up close through use of an Elmo will provide some much needed "shock and awe" (the only good thing that came out of those bleak years was that phrase...), I plan on picking and choosing a few select pieces aloud and offering this one up for grabs to many hands raised.

*Husband and Oldest visited some up close and personal while on a trip to S. America.
