" I enjoyed the different character voices and story very much. I think the writing might be cumbersome for the grade 6 to 9 age level. " said.

" What a great young adult read. Loved the characters and the nifty way this author spins a yarn. The voice of the bird is brilliant. " said.

" Very good book, with a young ambitious girl who decides to be a falconer. Good for middle readers or YA or adults. Echos of the sagas and history. Set in Norway around the time of the coming of Christianity and colonization of Iceland. Magic & myth & fantasy. I liked it for being about wisdom. " said.

" This book seemed completely random and not much made sense. I really hope I was just misreading everything but at least it gave a few laughs. For a hardcover book I got for less than $2 new, I shouldn't complain much. " said.

"This falls into the "meh" category: while the initial premise is good (always nice to see people harking back to Norse mythology, which is highly underrated in most schools (they prefer Greek/Roman)), the Intrusive Voice of the Narrator is a problem.

The length of this book was also a problem. It's clearly a trilogy (even says so on the subtitle/series name) but I get the feeling that someone - an editor? - took a single book, got the author to pad in a few places, and chopped it into thirds. The result was poor (given the Intrusive Voice) and I'm not interested in the rest of the trilogy.

" I loved this book and its intermingling of history, myth, and fantasy. It is set in ancient Norway, around the tme when Christianity is being spread, which already makes an interesting setting. Its main characters are Freya,a young Norse girl raised soley by her father, and Morton, an old peregrine falcon who can no longer fly. As history sees a new leader emerge and introduce Christianity, we also notice hints of Valkyries and awakening gods.I can't wait for the next book. " said.
