" This is the sequel to Third Grade Science Experiment, but it doesn't matter to the plot. Three boys have accidently hypnotized their dog so he thinks he is a boy, and as a boy, the dog can talk. With a talking dog, they figure they are a shoe-in to win the school talent show with their ??ventriloquism? act. Unfortunately Arful may talk like a boy, but he still thinks like a dog. Beginning chapter book. " said.

"I was a third grade spy was a interesting book.It was about a dog named Arful ,he was a dog who can talk.Josh his owner and his friends were doing a talent show project .They did not know what to do for the talent show so they sent Arful to spy on the girls to find out what they were doing but every time they sent Arful he got distracted by something. So at the end they decided to do a thing where they make Arful do tricks. At the talent show they found out that the girls were doing a ballet performance." said.

" We've read I Was a Third Grade Science Project and we thought it was pretty funny. So we were excited to read more about Arful, Brian, Josh and Dougie and their classmates. The story is humorous and the ending is pretty ironic. We enjoyed reading this together and are looking forward to reading I Was a Third Grade Bodyguard next. " said.

"Mary Jane Auch and is an award winning author and illustrator of children's books for younger readers.

The story is mainly about a dog called Arful Lewis who suddenly begins talking.
The chapters are narrated by Brain Lewis and his dog Arful Lewis.
The dog's owner and his friends send Arful to spy on the other students
who are planning to participate in the school's talent show.
I found the story's plot to be very funny with nice illustrations.
One of My favorite chapters was the preparation for the talent show. Brian's friend Dougie came up with the idea of being a ventriloquist using Arful as his partner.
I think other young readers will enjoy this book because it makes you laugh knowing that the dog Arful can actual understand and talk with other people.
I also recommend this book because of the characters, illustrations and interesting story line for readers between the ages 5 to 8. I give a rating of five stars.

"I picked this book out for K from the library as it seemed that it might hold his attention. I knew it was a chapter book so I was interested to see how he would have liked it.
I was impressed that he wanted to continue reading it night after night. We only read about three to four chapters a night and they were really short so that was easy for us to stop and pick up again the next day.
This book is about a dog named Arful who can talk the boys Brian, Josh and Dougie don't want everyone to know so they try to keep it hush hush. When there is a school talent contest that will be happening the boys think that if Arful can find out from the girls what they are doing it will better their chances at winning.
It is a bunch of laughter trying to get Arful to follow directions and seeing the different ideas the boys come up with.

K said he liked the story and thought a talking dog was funny. When asked if he would like a talking dog he said "no because that would be weird." His favorite parts was the whole thing because Arful made it funny. He is wanting to read more from this author so I am hoping our library has more for us to read.
