" Good read. Definitely has a Percy Jackson vibe to it. I loved the Norse mythology in this, and I really enjoyed a couple of the side characters. I also liked how difficult it was for Sam to manage his dark side and the anger that built up inside him. I feel like that's something kids can really relate to. I'll be interested to see how the game plays into this. " said.

" While I felt that the book was a little rushed and the character relationships a little awkward, I also thought it was an awesome adventure. A little juvenile, sure, but young adults must find that easier to relate to than I did. I also wish there had been more about the Norse legends and deities, as I really am into the lore and such. Hope the next book will go more Into that and I look forward to seeing how Sam's adventures continue! " said.

"A great book for fans of Harry Potter! Lots of magic and adventure, with comic interludes included. The main character faces moral dilemmas and obstacles in ways which can be applied to the obstacles of young readers as well.

If my children were still young, I can imagine us reading this (and future books in the series) the same way we did the Harry Potter series--a chapter or two together every night, then discussing what we thought might happen next.

I would recommend this to all middle grade readers, particularly young boys.

" This super exciting book is about a boy named Sam who thinks he's just a regular guy until some pretty weird things start happening. It turns out that Sam is the son of the son of Odin, the Norse god and the son of a witch, which shouldn't have happened but did. Sam gets yanked into a huge conflict with the people of the Orkney Islands. There's magic, mythology, danger, mythical beasts, and friendship. It's a terrific story, especially if you liked books like Harry Potter or the Lightning Thief. " said.

"This book was an awesome read, it is filled with all sorts of creatures and tons of adventure. There are so many twists and turns it constantly keeps you guessing. "The Red Sun" was very reminiscent of Percy Jackson, Thor, and Lord of the Rings. If you enjoyed any of those movies/books you will not be disappointed with "The Red Sun". I loved the idea of the poisonous sun being intertwined with Sam's anger issues. With witches, dwarves, mythological Gods, and imps what's not to love about this book?! A great addition to the young adult fantasy novels.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

"Nice start to a new YA fantasy series with an ensemble cast with references to Norse mythology and Native American culture and folklore. There is some magic action and a couple revelation moments. But still, mysteries and questions presented that need to be addressed.

The part of the story that kept me curious was in regards to the development of the main character. Sam, the reluctant hero, is a character that is either loved or hated. It took me awhile to warm up to this character. At the midpoint of the book I did not yet know where I stood.

The other characters in the story were colorful including dwarves, witches and other strange creatures (as baddies).

"This book is a great read for the middle school, high school, and older reader! The beginning of this book grabs the reader's interest and makes for a great start.

My favorite character was Rego because of the role he played in the book as Sam's friend and mentor. I related to him because he looked out for his friends in the face of any danger they came upon. I found the human characters believable, as if their traits could be found in today's generation.

My favorite scene involved Sam using his magic. Ms. Adams used imagery to the utmost expectation of the reader. The scenes came alive in my mind due to her fantastic imagery!!

I'm highly anticipating book two in this series.

I was provided a copy of this book by BookSparks for my honest review.

"I enjoyed this book so much! I was preparing for a Harry Potter meets Percy Jackson theme in this book and that's what I definitely got - I usually hate comparing books but I mean it in a good way!

This book exceeded my expectations and I definitely enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting to! I loved all the talking animals, the witches, the god's and every other mythical aspect:) However, I definitely admired the family and friends relationship focus it had as although all these crazy things happen - family was kept at the forefront of it all and shown that family & friends are more important than the situation they were in.

And the ending shocked me! I was expecting for everything to go back to the way it was but it definitely hasn't! I won't spoil anything but I'm more than excited to read the next book soon:)
