"This book sparked my interest from just the cover. From the cover, it illustrates not only a female practicing science, but an african-american female practicing science. I was excited to read this book because from the cover made me think how this book could impact young girls. Girls are not often pushed towards or expected to enjoy/work in science fields. Also, history shows how uncommon it was for an african-american woman to be a scientist. This book is breaking stereotypes just from the cover. After reading the book, I knew it was one I needed to have in my classroom collection. The story illustrates a character who is overflowing with curiosity, and she is constantly asking questions. This book teaches children to do just the same and explore the world around them. Specifically, it empowers girls to pursue whatever they are passionated about. I would love to use this as a read-aloud lesson while incorporating it with a science lesson. " said.
