" Perfect read for any middle grader who likes fishing, the great outdoors, and humor. Eleven-year-old Hatcher Hampton tries to land a first place prize in a fishing rodeo with his Grandpa Grump while trying to avoid the one-armed, bizarre Lazarre. Along the way he encounters a humongous swamp legend. Great fun and great voice. " said.

"In a unique, hilarious, bayou-redolent voice, Hatcher tries to impress his family with his fishing prowess and his all-around grown-up-ish-ness a few days before his 13th birthday. Of course, when it comes to his list of reasons not to wear underwear--or his panic about the yellow-eyed swamp monster outside his cabin window far from civilization--Hatch proves he's a normal kid doing the best he can on the cusp of growing up. All the characters are sharply drawn with memorable dialog, from Hatch's Ma and his annoying brothers, to gruff, coffee-stirrer-chomping Grampa. My favorite was bizarre Lazarre, who will send delighted shivers down the spine as a truly creepy-complex antagonist. A fun read with plenty of surprises. " said.
