" I like rhymes and mother goose, but although I appreciate the idea of modernizing the pictures to be set in modern day times, I didn't like the execution of the illustrations. I didn't care for it. " said.

" Classic Mother Goose with fantastic mod illustrations!! " said.

" Pretty Slick! Updates the old and boring mother the colors and illustrations style " said.

" CIP/Summary:Traditional Mother Goose rhymes set in the city, such as when Mary's Little Lamb hails a cab to follow her to school.Yaccarino's modern, stylized illustrations update the traditional nursery rhymes by adding bright colors and a twentieth century urban setting. This is a fun read for ages 3-7.Favorably reviewed in SLJ. " said.

" Illustrations by Dan Yaccarino accompany a selection of Mother Goose rhymes. This is a small collection of English nursery rhymes attributed to the figure of "Mother Goose." It contains the most popular ones as well as a few less common ones. The artwork is bright and whimsical done with modern characterizations set in circa-1950s America. " said.

"Dan Yaccarino's delightful, stylish illustrations make this citified Mother Goose a solid selection to entertain small children and their parents. The pretty maids all in a row are wearing uniforms and holding brooms and dusters; the mouse in "Hickory Dickory Dock" is jumping off the clock and about to land in a sleeping man's mouth. A fun book to read aloud to children from 2-6."

CIP: "Traditional Mother Goose rhymes set in the city, such as when Mary's little lamb hails a cab to follow her to school."

SLJ: "PreSchool-Grade 1. Yaccarino lends his unique style to an up-to-date urban Mother Goose with great success. His strongly colored, stylized cartoon figures fill the pages with fun... Included are several less-well-known rhymes, in addition to the old familiar ones... Well conceived and certainly well worth adding to nursery-rhyme collections."

PW: "Yaccarino's... inventive, sharp-contoured images of city life unify this assortment of 34 nursery rhymes, which would have benefited from a more organized design. The contents range from such standards as "Humpty Dumpty" and "Pat-a-cake" to lesser-known work... The smooth-edged, stylized images expand on the concise verse, yet no drop caps (except on the first page) or page borders lend closure to individual poems, and no index or table of contents serves as a guide. Since some spreads offer one poem and others feature two rhymes per page, it makes for an awkward progression through this collection. Ages 2-5."

" This is a neat interpretation of Mother Goose. The rhymes are traditional Goose, but there are neat variations on the illustrations. " said.
