"When I saw this, I was excited to relive some of that magic. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. Yes, the images from the older Golden Books were there, but none of the ones that I really remembered as these were taken from the books published in the late 40's and 50's. I thought that this would take some of those iconic lessons and relate them to life as an adult and although it did try to do that, it wasn't successful for me. The few words per page would have been so much better if the entire book followed the format of the introduction. " said.

"I ran across this book in the self help section and was excited. I grew up reading these books. My ereader provides number of pages in a section/chapter with % complete but not total pages in the book. I knew the book was in trouble when I was at 20% after paging by the title, dedication and forward. This is a book of that simply pairs random illustrations with random lines from Little Golden Books. Think of it as cliff notes for Little Golden Books. I was expecting some enlightening commentary along with each pairing based on the book description. If the author had turned this in as a school writing assignment she would have received an F and probably gotten suspended for plagarism." said.

"Author Diane Muldrow is an editor for Little Golden Books, and an expert on the art and artists who have worked for the imprint over the years. I had the pleasure of hearing her speak recently, and also met her after the lecture.

Muldrow uses illustrations from classic Little Golden Books to illustrate philosophical points for adults who may have forgotten the important lessons from childhood. For example, an illustration from "Five Pennies to Spend" reminds us to keep a budget and stick to it.

The book is a brief 96 pages, but is filled with helpful advice and beautiful watercolor/gouache illustrations. I'll be seeking out Muldrow's other titles!

How cool is this book idea? I was psyched to read snippets of books I loved as a kid that have been updated for grown-ups.

What I received, however, left me scratching my head in bewilderment. Is this supposed to be funny? witty? charming? Did I just get a bum ARC? The file I received was all of 11 pages long and comprised a single sentence over a handful of pages:

Is your life starting to feel like a circus?
Don't panic...
Today's a new day.
Work hard.
Play hard.
Believe in Santa Claus...
love at first sight...
and that your ship will come in. As long as you do, your life is bound to be Golden!

Um... okay? I'm not really sure what this is supposed to be.

I received a copy of this book from Edelweiss in exchange for my honest review.
