" 5 platypires I wasn't sure about this book, but decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. It was perfect for my young son. Informative, with rhyme! The pictures were also amusing as well. Highly recommend. " said.

" A great way to introduce young children to bacteria. The illustrations are very bright and entertaining. The subject matter is explained very simply at a young child's level of understanding. I would recommend this book to every young, budding scientist. " said.

" Free on Kindle so I checked it out - would be a great way to introduce your small child to the wonderful world of bacteria, which is great for the budding scientific mind. Adorable illustration and guide to the bacteria shapes.Would have given it five stars if not for a glaring usage error (to/too). " said.

"Picture books serve a lot of different purposes with youngsters - fun first, creating a love of reading next, and time with loving adults. These would be reason enough to sit down and enjoy a book together. Adding a bit of a science learning topic is a real bonus, and this book is a really delightful intro to a new topic. All our little ones hear about "germs" but as they get a bit older they can learn that there are 'bad bacteria" like germs and "good bacteria" - which might be a surprise to their grownup readers! Great fun and food for future conversations." said.

This book is a great introduction to scientific exploration and then to bacteria itself. I love that the protagonist is a young girl who is exploring the world around her. I think students will see themselves in her, and that along with the interesting, rhyming information about the different types of bacteria will really persuade kids to want to explore.

I do think that this is just an introduction though. Each bacteria is briefly mentioned along with a fun illustration. I would love to see this book be a jumping off point to an inquiry unit about bacteria.

#9 on The Gittle List 2014: Best Indie Children's Picture Books

In Meet Bacteria! Ms. Bielawski introduces children to the topic of bacteria. It is science made fun and interesting. Heck, I learned a thing or two. Meet Bacteria! is book one of the Mummy Nature Series. This is the kind of book that can spark a child’s curiosity and lead to a love of science and the natural world. We tend to separate imagination from science, but great discoveries require both.

(Disclosure: Ms. Bielawski entered "Meet Bacteria!" into The Gittle List: Top 10 Indie Children's Picture Books of 2014 contest. There was no entry fee and I was under no obligation to review it.)
