" This is a scientific explanation and there's lots of naked illustrations. The pictures of many different types of bellybuttons on the back page is a little eerie. " said.

" Tetchan contemplates his bellybutton with his animal friends. And there's a nice shot of him hanging on to his mom by the umbilical cord. What else could you ask for in a book? " said.

" a great book for little ones... does double-duty explaining why we have bellybuttons and also how a baby grows in mommy's tummy (without going into too much detail). my 3 y/o loved it! " said.

" I put this in the kids books section, but it was bought by a friend of mine to give to his then girlfriend. He has a "thing" for belly buttons. Anyway when they broke up I ended up with it for whatever reason. I haven't looked at it in a while, but I remember laughing like crazy about the silliness of it. Then again I guess whatever works for a kid, huh? " said.

Age: Early Childhood

In Contemplating Your Bellybutton, we met Tetchan, a young boy who wonders what why he has a bellybutton and why it sticks out. An omniscient narrator goes on to explain to Tetchan about how he once was attached to his mother by an umbilical cord and when he was born, they cut the cord and his bellybutton is the result of that. The book also explains why you should keep your bellybutton clean, and how all bellybuttons are unique.

As a child, I enjoyed this book and the simple, straight-forward explanations about the origins of your bellybutton. The book contains some mild nudity of the mother giving birth and breastfeeding, but they serve to keep this book honest and informative. Overall, I recommend this book as a great tool to teach young children about their bodies.

Who hasn't wondered, at some time or another, what the point of that weird, wrinkly hole in your stomach was anyway?
