Book Introduction: Comanche Evans lives with her widowed mother and 2 sisters in 1925 Colorado Springs during the winter, but during the summer she and her family go up to the mountains and their family homestead to work all summer at proving up the land. In town they are trapped by poverty but on the ranch, they have ultimate freedom. It is hard work for such a little girl but adventures are around every corner, along with a little danger. During it all, Comanche learns the importance of family, love, loyalty and having something to call your own.
